Ken had been
employed as a Speech and Language Pathologist and Assitive Technology Consultant
with Pittsburgh Public Schools from March 27, 1971 until his retirement December
31, 2007. He holds a professional certificate from the Pennsylvania
Department of Education in Speech and Hearing Correction, and is a supervisor in
Special Education. Ken is
also licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Speech and Language
Pathologist and holds a Certificate of Competency form the American Speech
Language Hearing Association (ASHA). He has received a number of awards
for Continuing Education from ASHA.
Ken has a private practice, which he limits to adults
in need of
augmentative communication. He was also an instructor for Carlow
University in the Department of Speech Pathology.
Ken has written and taught a remedial carpenters math
curriculum for the local Carpenters Union. He is a co-author of AQLS
Iconic (Adult Quick Learning System Iconic) that was designed for adults with
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Multiple Sclerosis, or other diagnoses
involving gradual changes in physical abilities.
Ken is on the Board of Governors for the Masonic
Learning Center for Children which not only provides free one on one instruction
for children with dyslexia but conducts clinical research. He also is on a
Scouting Committee devoted to the creation of a Special Needs and Disabilities
District.
